I know it probably sounds a bit cliche’, but I am truly grateful for my family. During the holiday season, you can’t hardly help but think of family, and this year was no exception.
I was lucky to grow up with two parents that I knew loved and cared about me. Although they had some differences of opinion about parenting, I was taught to work hard, to be responsible for choices that I made, and to reach out and serve people around me. Those are lessons I continue to try to use each day, and I am grateful to have had that instruction and guidance in my youth.
I’m also grateful for my siblings. I am the oldest of three. My sister had some physical and mental challenges throughout her life, and sadly passed away a few years ago, but she was one of the best examples I have ever had in my life of showing love and compassion for everyone and everything around her. My brother is just enough younger than me that we weren’t super close growing up, but as I watch him now with his own wife and family, I am also grateful to have him in my life. He is such a good example of working hard to provide for his family and also of serving those around him. I need to be better about keeping in touch, but I’m glad to know they are all there if I need them.
I have been so blessed to find a husband that cares about me and is concerned about my welfare and happiness. He has always been supportive of my goals and dreams and isn’t afraid to pitch in and help around the house to give me time to make those things happen. We have four wonderful children (and two little angels in heaven) that have taught me about more things than I could possibly count – among them unselfish love, patience and how to slow down and enjoy the time we have together.
I am also grateful for wonderful in-laws, my husband’s siblings and their families and extended family on my side of the genealogy chart. Again, I’m not the best at keeping in touch, but I know they are there if I need them, and I appreciate the many things they have also taught me.
I hope I can show a little of my gratitude to my family members in the coming year by doing a better job of keeping in touch with them and sharing more of our lives together.
May you and your family reach out to one another in the coming year, as well, and make it the best one yet!
