You know my favorite thing about sharing these gratitude posts? The way they have the ability to change my outlook on life!
It’s been a long, busy week for me and I was feeling a bit run down, but when I opened the e-mail containing our guest blogger’s post for this week and read what Karen Lee, one of our Progressive Dairyman editors, was grateful for, it really made me take a step back and think, “You know… it’s a beautiful day here, too! What do you have to be discouraged about?” So, thank you, Karen!
She writes:
On Monday afternoon I ventured out for a meeting with one of Progressive Publishing’s many industry friends. As I was leaving the meeting, I scanned through the e-mails on my phone to see what I was missing while away from the office. It just so happened there was an e-mail from Lynn reminding me about my guest blog post assignment this week, which gave me something to think about on my way home.
Monday happened to be a beautiful day for a drive, and it didn’t take long to realize that this week I am grateful for sun, wind and 60°F.
We’ve been getting our fair share of April showers in southern Wisconsin. So much so that drought concerns have been replaced with flood warnings.
With my farmland currently underwater, any day where it is sunny, windy and warm is certainly welcomed and something to appreciate in life. Now we just need a couple of weeks with this weather so we can get a crop in the ground, or at least most of it.
I also think this makes for perfect calf-raising weather. This winter we started raising feeder calves, and it didn’t take long to see how much the calves love sunlight. Even on a cold day, we’d find them lying in front of the clear door to catch the rays coming in.
Weather like this means we get to leave the doors open, which not only lets the calves spend a lot of time outside, but also helps with air movement in their barn.
The calves aren’t the only ones around here looking to get out in the fresh air. It’s been a long winter, and my children are excited to play outside again without all of their snow gear on.
We welcomed a new puppy to our household this week. While I am a firm believer that kids need a dog, I’m not particularly a fan of house pets. With this weather the puppy can grow to appreciate the outdoors, and I can keep some sort of semblance to my home.
I am truly grateful to have all of these things in my life, and it’s nice to take a moment to appreciate Mother Nature for helping them all to thrive.
Thank you, again, Karen! I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with and learn from you. I’m always amazed at your positive outlook, no matter how busy you seem to be, and how you are able to balance work and family.
I hope the weather is starting to warm up where you are, too! If so, take a moment to go outside, take a deep breath of fresh air and realize how blessed you are! With Karen’s reminder, I know I’ll be taking a few minutes to do that today myself!
